Producer Teddy's THE BLACK LABEL is known for creating hit songs for BIGBANG and BLACKPINK, but they had never debuted their own girl group. MEOVV is their first team. They debuted on September 6, 2024, with the digital single "MEOW" and garnered attention even before their debut as "rookies embodying the label's sound."
The group name MEOVV is an acronym for "My Eyes Open VVide", and the two V's in the logo come from this. In August 2024, THEBLACKLABEL first hinted at a 5-member group with a teaser where a black cover was removed, revealing five black cats. Members were then unveiled one by one every two days. The fandom name, PAWMPAWM, was revealed on March 24, 2025. It combines "pomme," meaning apple in French, with "paw" (cat's paw), meaning "an apple that wouldn't hurt even if you put it in your eye."

Four out of the five members had modeling or trainee experience before their debut. Ella Gross is an American child model who appeared in Zara, H&M, and Gap campaigns since she was two years old. Gawon was a YG Entertainment trainee and appeared in an Adidas advertisement. Anna is a former model who has been active in Japan since 2014. Each member's profile can be found in their individual introductions (Sooin・Gawon・Anna・Narin・Ella).
MEOVV's songs are characterized by THEBLACKLABEL's unique minimalist beats, based on hip-hop and trap. From their debut song "MEOW" and subsequent track "Toxic" to their first EP title track "Drop Top," they have consistently layered a sophisticated mood over restrained sounds. The title track of their second EP in 2026, "DDI RO RI," incorporates Bach's "Toccata and Fugue in D Minor," blending the grandeur of a classical organ with modern beats, further expanding their initial "fierce unnie" image. Individual member performances can be viewed in Fancam, and choreography in Dance.
They achieved more than rookies in their debut year. In November 2024, they performed "MEOW" and "BODY" at the MAMA Awards, receiving the Most Popular New Star Award. They also won the Best Musician Award at the Asia Artist Awards (AAA). On May 8, 2025, they achieved their first music show win on M Countdown with the pre-release single "Hands Up."
