Haneul Park — A Silvergrass Hill Rising Above a Landfill

There is trash beneath Sangam-dong Haneul Park. This is the site where the Nanjido landfill underwent stabilization work and became a park. As silvergrass grew on top of it, it has now become a representative place in Seoul to visit for silvergrass.

There are two key points: when to go (during the festival or normal times) and how to get up (walking or riding). Once these two are decided, the rest will follow.

First: Check if it's the festival period

Most information on this page, such as night opening and stair control, applies only during the festival period. The Seoul Silvergrass Festival is held annually for about one week in mid-October (October 18-24 in 2025).

  • Festival Period — Park 10:00~21:00. Night viewing, walking through the illuminated silvergrass fields after sunset, is the hallmark of this festival.
  • Other Periods — Closes monthly based on sunset (approximately 19:00 in October). Access is restricted at night for biological protection, and entry is blocked 30 minutes before closing. If you go expecting an 8 PM night view during the non-festival period, you won't be able to get up.

Event schedules and programs change annually, so it's safe to check the announcement for that year on the Seoul Metropolitan Government Environment News before visiting.

How to Get Up: Walk, or Ride

Haneul Park is located on high ground, so you need to decide how to get up.

Stairs — Free, but there are 291 steps. During the festival period, to manage congestion, they are controlled for descending only, so you cannot go up the stairs at this time.

Maengkkongyi Electric Cart — Paid.

During the festival period, it operates from 10:00 to 21:00, coinciding with the park's opening hours, and it is common for wait times to exceed 1 hour. It's about a 10-minute walk from Exit 1 of World Cup Stadium Station (Line 6) to the electric cart ticket office.

To summarize — during normal times, walk up the stairs, and during the festival, take the electric cart, but go early in the morning to minimize wasted time.

Things to Consider

  • Windbreaker — The area is high and open, so it's definitely colder than downtown.
  • Weekday Visit — The electric cart line is longest on weekends.
  • Arrive around sunset (Festival Period) — You can see the daytime silvergrass and night illumination at once.
