From 8th Place on 'My Teenage Girl' to S5

Kim YooYeon first stepped into the public spotlight on MBC's audition program My Teenage Girl. Competing as a 4th-grade trainee, she made it all the way to the final episode in February 2022, ultimately finishing in 8th place—just outside the qualifying debut lineup.

On July 11 of that year, tripleS revealed her as their fifth member. tripleS assigns a number to each member as they are introduced one by one, while fan voting events called "Gravity" determine which members are placed into each unit. In the very first Gravity vote, YooYeon was chosen alongside Kim NaKyoung, Jeong HyeRin, and Gong YuBin to form the group's debut sub-unit, Acid Angel from Asia (AAA).

AAA released their debut mini-album ACCESS on October 28, 2022 at 6 PM, fronted by the title track "Generation." The following year, on February 13, the group officially launched its initial 10-member lineup with ASSEMBLE, whose title track "Rising" was also selected through a fan vote that drew roughly 57,000 ballots.

Career Highlights by Sub-Unit

tripleS continually forms sub-units featuring distinct member combinations. Looking solely at the units Kim YooYeon has taken part in reveals an active timeline:

PeriodUnitKey Track / ReleaseLineup
October 2022Acid Angel from Asia"Generation" / ACCESS4 members
October 2023EVOLution"Invincible" / ⟡ (MUJUK)8 members
October 2024Visionary Vision (VV)"Hit The Floor" / Performante12 members, Leader Jeong HyeRin
November 2024Hatchi!"Untitled"8 members, Japan-focused unit
September 2025AlphieWorld Tour 〈Alpha Percent〉8 members, tour unit
November 2025–sun (msnz)"Bubble Gum Girl" / Beyond Beauty6 members

EVOLution's "Invincible," produced by G-high, is a high-tech dance track that sings of an unbreakable, diamond-like self that withstands any hardship. VV's "Hit The Floor" blends a heavy hip-hop beat with boom-bap and high-tech dance. At their showcase, articles were headlined "Breaking the Conventional 'Girl Group' Concept," reflecting the team's ambition to diverge from standard girl-group tropes.

Alphie was an eight-member unit formed specifically for the 〈Alpha Percent〉 world tour, which kicked off in North America in September 2025. It featured Kim YooYeon, Kotone, Nien, Lynn, Jeong HaYeon, Park ShiOn, Kim ChaeWon, and JiYeon.

Currently, YooYeon is active in the unit sun. On November 24, 2025, tripleS released the mini-album Beyond Beauty, unveiling four sub-units simultaneously—moon, sun, neptune, and zenith (collectively titled msnz). The sun lineup consists of Xinyu, Kim YooYeon, Mayu, Kim ChaeWon, Kim ChaeYeon, and Jeong HyeRin. The lead track "Bubble Gum Girl" combines the glossy "Frutiger Aero" aesthetic popularized in the 2000s and early 2010s with an upbeat, lively topline melody.

Thoughts from the Oldest Member

At EVOLution's debut showcase in 2023, Kim YooYeon explained the fan-voted unit formation system:

"No member gets left out without being chosen by fans. Through the 'Dimension' system, every member gets the opportunity to participate in promotions."

A year later at the VV showcase, she remarked, "Even though we are half the full group, having 12 members generates an even stronger synergy," naming 'boyish,' 'high-tech dance,' and 'level up' as key concepts for the release. She also described herself as someone in the group whose "apologies come out in just one second." At the same showcase, Park SoHyun added, "Because our oldest sister YooYeon speaks up honestly when something goes wrong, the younger and middle members feel comfortable speaking their minds as well."

Kim YooYeon in 2026

  • February 4 — Attended the Kwak Hyun Joo Collection show at 2026 F/W Seoul Fashion Week held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) in Seoul. She stood at the photo wall alongside Xinyu and Jeong HaYeon.
  • June 1 — The full 24-member group released ASSEMBLE26 LOVE & POP pt.1, featuring seven tracks including the title track "Baby Flower." The song delivers a message of comfort to young girls going through growing pains, reminding them that everyone shares the same struggles and encouraging them to blossom like flowers.
  • September 1 — sun released the Japanese original single "DNA (Dream N Access)." This marked the second installment in a four-part series where each of the four msnz units released a Japanese track on the 1st of every month from August to November. On September 5, all six members of sun held a fan event in Tokyo.
  • October 10–11 — tripleS kicked off their new world tour 〈ANDLESS〉 as a complete 24-member lineup at Jangchung Arena in Seoul. During the unit stages, sun covered TWICE's "CHEER UP," and the new track "Andless"—sharing its title with the tour—was unveiled for the first time.
  • October 16 — Released the single ASSEMBLE26 LOVE&POP pt.2 and its title track "Andless." Lindgren, who previously worked on "Takedown" for the Netflix K-Pop: Demon Hunters OST, handled lyrics, composition, and arrangement. On October 22, all 24 members took to the stage together on Mnet's M Countdown.

Because 24 members move across the stage simultaneously, keeping track of an individual member's path often leads fans to search for individual fancams.

The tour wrapped up its Macau stop on October 24 and heads to Toronto on November 11, New York on November 15, Chicago on November 18, Fort Worth on November 21, Los Angeles on November 24, and Vancouver on November 26. The series finale, LOVE&POP pt.3, is slated for release in January 2027 as their first Japanese full-length studio album.
