When to Go — Choosing 2026 Dates
According to the Korea Forest Service's 2026 forecast, the peak for ginkgo trees, which are central to the flatlands of the Seoul metropolitan area, is October 30th, and for maple and oak trees, it's October 31st. Therefore, the most suitable time for a day trip in the Seoul metropolitan area is the last week of October to the first week of November (October 31st – November 1st, November 7th – 8th).

Course 1. By Public Transport Only — Urban Foliage at Palaces and City Walls
This is the easiest day trip, done entirely by subway.

Gyeongbokgung Palace is closed on Tuesdays, and Changdeokgung Palace on Mondays. If the day doesn't work, you can switch to the Namsan circular road.
Course 2. Yangpyeong — Morning Mist and Ginkgo Trees
This eastern course is accessible by public transport via the Gyeongui-Jungang Line.

Course 3. Northern Gyeonggi-do — Arboretum and Valley
The mountainous areas of northern Gyeonggi-do change color earlier than Seoul, so this course is suitable for late October weekends.

Hwadam Botanic Garden's autumn peak season reservation schedule and fees are announced annually on its official website. You cannot enter without a reservation.
How to Avoid Traffic and Return Jams
- Departure: Outer roads start to get congested after 8 AM on weekends. For Courses 2 and 3, departing before 7 AM is effective.
- Return: The Seoul-bound direction is busiest late Sunday afternoon. It's better to depart before 3-4 PM or have dinner and return later.
- Public Transport: Course 1 is possible by subway only, and Course 2 by Gyeongui-Jungang Line and bus/taxi. Courses 3 and 4 are more convenient by private car.
