Top 10 Places to Visit in Korea in June — Last Chance Before the Monsoon

June is a magical time for travel in Korea. While the spring flowers of May have faded, the new foliage is at its densest, and you can enjoy just four weeks of refreshing early summer before the July monsoon begins. If you miss this short golden period, the next opportunity will be three months later. If foreign travelers want to experience Korea's true summer, the first to third weeks of June are the answer.

All 10 places below share the common characteristic of being at their peak before the start of the monsoon season (late June to mid-July).

1. Geoje Jeogu Hydrangea Road — June's Purple Welcome

In Jeogu Village, Geoje, Gyeongsangnam-do, throughout June, 10,000 hydrangeas bloom all at once. The sight of the entire village alley becoming a purple-pink gradient goes viral on Instagram every year. The peak is mid-June.

  • Location: Jeogu-ri, Nambu-myeon, Geoje-si, Gyeongnam
  • Travel Tip: Weekday mornings recommended. On weekends, there are queues at every photo spot.

2. Boseong Green Tea Fields — Peak of Early Summer Foliage

The green tea leaves of Boseong Tea Plantation are the deepest green in June. At misty dawn, the scenery resembles an Oriental painting. Even the green tea ice cream is freshest during this period.

  • Location: Hoecheon-myeon, Boseong-gun, Jeollanam-Gwangju Integrated Special City
  • Tip for Foreigners: Can be combined with a Korean tea culture experience. Search for "Boseong Green Tea Fields".

3. Anmyeondo Recreational Forest — Last Camping Before the Monsoon

June is the climax of Korea's camping season. Once the monsoon starts, tents become useless. Anmyeondo is a rare place where you can enjoy both pine forests and beaches simultaneously.

  • Location: Anmyeon-eup, Taean-gun, Chungnam
  • Reservation Tip: Weekends in June are fully booked from one month in advance. Weekdays recommended.

4. Gyeongpodae Pavilion, Gangneung — Pristine East Sea Sunrise

Gangneung's East Sea is clearest before the July rains begin. Sunrise time 5:10 AM, arrival at 4 AM recommended. The cafe street operates from 8 AM.

  • Location: Gyeongpo-ro, Gangneung-si, Gangwon-do
  • Additional Route: Jeongdongjin Station → Anmok Cafe Street → Gyeongpo Lake Dulle-gil.

5. Gokseong World Rose Festival — Full Bloom in Early June

Korea's largest rose festival, where 1,004 varieties of roses gather in one place. Held annually from late May to early June. With added night lighting, it's the number one dating spot.

  • Location: Train Village, Ogok-myeon, Gokseong-gun, Jeollanam-Gwangju Integrated Special City
  • 2026 Schedule: Typically from the last weekend of May to the first week of June. Check on the official website.

6. Yangpyeong Dumulmeori — Dawn Mist and River Scenery

Where the Bukhangang and Namhangang rivers meet. In June, at dawn, river mist rises, making it a popular spot where photographers line up. A 400-year-old zelkova tree is its symbol.

  • Location: Yangseo-myeon, Yangpyeong-gun, Gyeonggi-do
  • Time Required: 1 hour from Seoul. Good for cycling routes too.

7. Jeongseon Hwaam Cave + 5-Day Market — Mountain Village Slow Travel

If you want a quiet, less touristy Korea, Jeongseon in Gangwon-do. Hwaam Cave stays cool at 12℃ even in summer. At the 5-Day Market (on days ending in 2 and 7), gondrebap and memiljeon are a must.

  • Location: Jeongseon-gun, Gangwon-do
  • Tip for Foreigners: Experience Korea's rural sentiment. Lack of English guidance is part of its charm.

8. Seoul Han River Bicycle Path — Perfect Time for a Ride Before the Heat Wave

From July, a 35℃ heatwave. June evenings are the optimal time for a Han River ride. Ttareungi (Seoul Bike) 1-day pass is 5,000 won. Jamsu Bridge → Banpo Bridge → Hannam Bridge course recommended.

  • Recommended Time: Weekdays evenings 6-9 PM. Night view + fountain show.
  • Tip for Foreigners: Ttareungi is available via the Seoul Bike app, and foreign cards are also accepted.

9. Jeju Udo — Last Pristine Island Before the Full-Fledged July Monsoon

Udo is even more pristine than Jeju Island itself. In June, the sea water is not cold and the sun is not too strong – a golden ratio. Geommeolle Beach and Hagosudong Beach are a must.

  • Location: Udo-myeon, Jeju-si, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province
  • Transportation: 15 minutes by ferry from Seongsan Port.

10. Busan Haeundae and Dalmaji-gil Road — Night View + Gourmet Food

June in Busan is the most vibrant period just before the full-fledged summer. Haeundae sandy beach + night view from Dalmaji-gil cafes. Milmyeon (Busan-style cold noodles) tastes best.

  • Location: Haeundae-gu, Busan Metropolitan City
  • Tip for Foreigners: The night view of Gwangandaegyo Bridge is better from Gwangalli.

Where to Go After the Monsoon?

When June's magic ends, July-August calls for indoor attractions, valleys, or overseas getaways. The next season is September's autumn leaves and October's autumn peak. In between, cool cafe tours, museums, and art galleries are alternatives.

Before traveling, be sure to check the Korea Meteorological Administration's monsoon start forecast. The 2026 monsoon is expected from June 25th to July 24th (±3 days compared to average).
